A convergent ladybird beetle, Hippodamia convergens, seems to snuggle into the heart of a heart-shaped salvia leaf. This photo was taken on Jan 29, a coldish late winter day when there were hardly any juicy aphids to eat. This beetle hung out here in the afternoon sun for a couple hours, then flew away (I guess) when I wasn't looking.
These ladybirds are more active on a sunny day (my birthday!) a few days ago at West Jetty View Park in Newport Beach.
