Autumn gold

I was pretty excited to see this male carpenter bee, xylocopa varipunctata, foraging on a mid-autumn afternoon. This must be the second generation, as the males seen back in the beginning of May must have surely mated and died off by now.

Wow, that's a great shot. I tried so hard to take a picture of one of those guys about a month ago, but he just moved too fast, and I couldn't focus fast enough!

Yeah, thanks. They usually don't stop for long. I got so lucky when this one lingered on that anisodontea flower.
