Hung By a Thread
Here's another thing that I hadn't seen until just now. This orbweaver spider, neoscona ozxacensis, was hanging dead over the driveway in the early morning shreds of her own web.
Our population of these big beautiful weavers has gone way down and I tentatively attribute that to a big increase in numbers and species diversity of wasps, many of which prey on spiders. This one must have met some other demise since a wasp, if victorious, would have carried the spider to its nest as food for her larvae. Unless this wasp/spider encounter was a draw.
