Bloom Day and the Guardians of the Doors

I spent 1/2 the day planting, and part of the day cleaning and so got around to posting my blooms a bit late. Of course, the early spring garden is loaded with stuff in bloom; even the weeds are quite pretty. But I picked out just two blooms to share this ides of March.

At the entrance to our front porch is a kalanchoe tomentosa 'Chocolate Soldier'. Mmmm succulent chocolate. It is in bloom and looks beautiful standing sentry at the entrance to the house.

As you launch out the back door of our house, there is Juan's aeonium in a smallish pot. I bought this plant, if you call $1 including the pot buying, from my neighbor Juan at his yard sale 2 years ago. And so it finally bloomed. I don't know which aeonium this is, but it does a good job watching over the back way in our abode.

When I'm greeted by beautiful and interesting plants on my way out into the world, it puts a smile on my face. And that can be good protection from what may try to ail you, after all.

March 16 update:

Ok Cindy, here you go. Juan's aeonium is a tall skinny thing, about 4 feet or so with the rosettes up on a stalk not counting the inflorescence. This photo shows most of it, with about 2' of stalk down below not showing.

And the honeybees really dig this flower.

I love this bottom picture. You've mentioned Juan's aeonium several times, but as I search through posts that mention it, the pictures are all very close up. (probably something to do with the bugs in the pictures, he he!)

Anyway, I'd like to see what the whole plant looks like sometime. At least a full rosette.
