Shy Young Katydid
As I have said on numerous occasions these katydids, and especially the nymphs, move over their plant homes and larders with a strange slow deliberation. This one is hiding amid a Texas ranger, leucophyllum frutescens, an attractive drought tolerant shrub that I am happy to say is thriving alongside my front porch with hardly a drop of supplemental water this summer. There are a few droplets on the katydid's left hind leg; the day before (Oct 14) we had a torrential downpour of about 1/4" of rain and this is a happy reminder of that.
