Rectifying the Katdid Deficiency
Have I been posting enough katydid portraits? No?
Here then is an adult female Scudderia furcata. She looks unfriendly, even imposing in the head-on shot (don't we all?) but given some soft backlighting and an attractive angle from her good side, she looks very handsome in her maturity.
Here also is a half-grown nymph feeling her way through the sweet annie. It's interesting how these hoppers move soooo slowly through the plants, each step tentative, feelers waving gracefully in search of danger? opportunity? just curious?
