Multi-tasking

I have been a bit busy but maybe I can squeeze in a brief post. Like this female green lynx spider (Peucetia viridans) I'm multi-tasking: while posting this I'm thinking about how important it is to get the tax returns done before the 10/15 deadline; wondering what to wear for Halloween; drinking coffee; and planning my attack on the neatly organized stack of paperwork on my desk. Really must get to work now.

But back to our spider: She's standing guard over her egg sac, protecting her young from predators and wet and cold, maybe she's planning to move the sac up higher on the shrubbery, to catch the warmth of the new day's sunshine; oh and she has managed to capture a meal, too. That looks like a mason wasp, maybe Ancistrocerus, that has met its doom among the variegated myrtle, Myrtus communis 'variegata'.

P.S. Is it October already?

That egg sack looks like a coconut nougat! I mean, without the big spider hanging out around it... Good luck with the Halloween costume- haven't started on that yet, either.
