Grasshopper Gallery

An assortment of greybird grasshopper nymphs found in the late summer garden for your viewing pleasure. Schistocerca nitens comes in a delightful array of colors as immatures, but these colorful and varied youngsters mature to become scruffy looking adults that, to my eye, pretty much look like each other except the females are much larger.

The last photo, with the very tiny one on the cedar fence, was taken while talking on the phone without benefit of active focusing. I include it here on the basis of shear cuteness, not photographic merit.

The colors of these grasshoppers is one of my favorite bug-things!

While out of focus, I do love the composition of the last photo. Way to multi-task!
