Microcentrum Geek Out, Continued
So I was heading to the back garden to see if the rudbeckia needed water (again) when I noticed an insect skin (shed exoskeleton) hanging from a lantana leaf.
On closer inspection I realized the former owner of this skin, a slightly larger Microcentrum californicum, was hanging out on top of the leaf: its new covering curing in the sun. I am not embarrassed to say I exclaimed out loud, "Yes!". Anyway, it's exciting to see this newer species proliferating, or at least metamorphizing, in my yard.
Really long antennae. Odd star shaped mouthparts.
Cute brown bug-eyes. Glowing green.
California anglewinged katydid.
