Rainy Day Rudbeckia: July Drizzle #1
Every year I grow rudbeckia hirta, big sunny flowers that come into their own in the blazing heat of mid-summer. Butterflies, bees and other nectar/pollen feeders love them and so do the predators that feed on these things, so the rudbeckia are always a hub of insect/spider activity when they are in bloom. Raindrops + Rudbeckia = previously unheard of. Sure, maybe there's been a thunderstorm or two in late July in memory but I do not recall having steady, drippy, overcast, cool moisty rain in July ever.
Here's the proof of it, yesterday's raindrops all over the gloriosa daisies.

But next month when we're sweatin', we'll look back fondly at this cool dreary weather, right?
