This one dropped in the other night, a few days before schedule. Here it is on my kitchen floor, lately of the kitchen table. At first when I disturbed its rest on the table, this large beetle froze. Then, it made a surprisingly loud hissing sound, and flew off toward the ceiling in search of the night sky, freedom and a beetle of the same species but opposite sex. No luck up there among the chipped plaster: it fell to the floor where I took its portrait before setting it loose in the dark outside. Will it complete its quest, or be led astray by an open kitchen door or a shining porchlight?
